Four Things You Should Do Before You Buy An Area Rug

An accent can be in the form of furniture like the shelf, the sofa set or it can be in the form of an artwork or painting. If you want to draw attention to your beautiful flooring then you can always use an area rug to serve as an accent. This type of accent will surely draw the attention to your floor as well as tie everything down inside the room.

Area rugs are unique pieces for accents. It doesn't come in one type and one size alone. There are a lot of variants when it comes to area rugs so in case you decide to use this one as an accent here are some things you should do before you finally buy one.

1. Decide first on which part of the room you would place the area rug. Remember that area rugs cover only a certain amount of floor space so it doesn't necessarily mean that it should cover the whole room. Area rugs can be placed on the doorway, under the table, under the bed or it can simply be placed in the middle of the room.

2. Once you have decided on the area, you must now measure it. In case you don't know, area rugs come in different sizes. There are those rugs that are big enough to be placed under the bed or under the center table and there are those small enough to be place on the door way or underneath a side table. It is important that you measure the area so that you will have an idea as to how big or how small you want your area rug to be. The size of your rug should neither be too small or too big.

3. Next to that you must now think about the color. If your room is filled with bright colors it wouldn't be a problem because you won't have to worry about getting a rug with the wrong color. But in cases wherein you have a particular color scheme for you room, you will then have to think about the possible area rug colors that will match the rest of the room. You can do this by bringing a paint sample of the room when you go shopping for a rug. This will surely help you a lot in finding that area rug with the perfect color.

4. Also, you will have to choose between rugs made of synthetic or natural fibers. If you want a more traditional feel you might choose a rug made with natural fibers because other than the natural, earthy feeling it emits, it is also durable and can last for years. If you have kids and worry a lot on spillage and stains then you might opt to buy a rug made of synthetic fibers because these are said to be stain resistant and easier to clean.

Before you make the final purchase, make sure you did all four of the steps mentioned above. Doing such will surely keep you from buying an area rug of the wrong color, size or type.
